Marriage registration records the marriage through the competent legal or administrative route. Attestation serves a different function: the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs explains that attestation certifies the authenticity of signatures and seals on official documents issued within or outside the UAE. Attestation does not by itself decide every question about legal validity, recognition or the effect of a marriage.
The required sequence depends on where the certificate was issued and where it will be used. A foreign marriage certificate may require steps in the issuing country, UAE diplomatic channels, MOFA attestation and certified Arabic translation. A UAE-issued certificate intended for use abroad may require a different destination-country process.

Registration and attestation perform different functions
These are five different jobs and they are often confused: recording a marriage, authenticating a certificate, translating one, using one administratively, and proving one in proceedings. Certified Arabic translation
Establish whether a certified Arabic translation or another language version is required, and keep whichever is produced tied to the source document it came from. The complete certificate, the translator’s credentials and consistent names across both are what an authority will check.

Ask which document, in which language, with which authentication, and whether a digital record is accepted in place of a physical one.
